Sri Lankan Fishermen held along with four boats

Chennai, 12 March, (Asiantribune.com):

The Indian Coast Guard has apprehended 23 Sri Lankan fishermen along with four boats during a search as part of anti-poaching operations in the sea adjoining Tamil Nadu and Andhra coast.

The fishermen and boats were apprehended on Wednesday by Coast Guard Ship 'Vajra' for fishing in India’s Exclusive Economic Zone, an official release said.

The fishermen and boats were being taken to Kakinada and being handed over to police authorities, it said.

This is the fifth time in this month that Sri Lankan fishermen had been taken into custody for fishing in Indian waters.

Coast Guard has apprehended a total of eight boats with 44 fishermen this month, the release added.
