Day by Day, the Sri Lankan fishermen venturing in to the Indian Sea waters were apprehended by the Marine Police.
Seventeen Sri Lankan fishermen were arrested for traversing the Indian sea waters near Nachugunta in Nagayyalanka Mandal of Krishna district late last night.
Acting on specific information, the Gilakaladindi Marine police arrested the fishermen for intruding illegally in the Indian waters for fishing, district Superintendent of Police D Ramakrishnayya told reporters.
He said the fishermen would be produced before a court later in the day.
Asked whether the fishermen were having any permission to fish in the Indian waters, Mr Ramakrishnayya said, ''No such permission has been accorded to them.''
Three motor boats used by them were also seized with the help of anchor, he added.
The fishermen were reportedly from Dondra, Ten Gold and Trincomalee areas of Sri Lanka.
This is the sixth time in this month that Sri Lankan fishermen had been taken into custody for fishing in Indian waters.
