Sathyalaya Ramakrishnan Reporting from Chennai
Chennai, 14 March, (Asiantribune.com):

sonia.jpgIn the History of more than 100 years of the Congress party in India, this is the first time its President visited the state party office on Saturday, that was Ms Sonia Gandhi.

Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, Smt. Indira Gandhi, Rajiv Gandhi, and Sitram Kesary had never visited the Sathyamoorthy Bhavan, which was built by late K Kamaraj as state party office.

But Smt. Sonia Gandhi created a history while she was here to attend the opening ceremony of the New Assembly Complex. All the Congress cadres old and young proudly said to Asian Tribune that they are happier at the moment and consider it more special than their birth.

Creating a history, Congress President Sonia Gandhi on Saturday visited the ''Sathyamurthy Bhavan'', the Pradesh headquarters of the party, becoming the first AICC President to visit the office, built more than five decades ago.

Bowing to persistent demand by party men, Ms Gandhi, deviating from her original schedule, took time off to make a brief visit much to the joy of the party men.

Ms Gandhi, who was here in connection with the inauguration of new Secretariat and Assembly Complex, was given a warm reception at the office by senior party leaders TNCC president K V Thangkabalu and Congress Legislature Party leader D Sudarasanam.

She spent about 20 minutes at the TNCC headquarters, before taking part in the function, sharing dias with Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Chief Minister M Karunanidhi.

On flying down from Delhi, along with the Prime Minister, Ms Gandhi drove down to 'Sathyamurthy Bhavan', while the Prime Minister drove down to Raj Bhavan.

Many top Congress leaders, including AICC General Secretary Rahul Gandhi had visited the party headquarters here, but this was the first time, a AICC President is making the visit, creating a history of sorts.

During her visit, Ms Gandhi was briefed about the ongoing organizational election to the youth Congress unit. She had a firsthand account of the election process, when the election for the office bearers of party unit in north Chennai was held at 'Sathyamurthy Bhavan'.
