Indian embassy beefs up security to thwart terrorists’ attack

Kosh R. Koirala Reporting from Mepal
Kathmandu, 14 March, (Asiantribune.com):

Indian Embassy in Kathmandu has beefed up security in its premises following intelligence reports that Jihadi outfits having bases in Nepal are looking at targeting it.

The Embassy officials said additional security measures such as increased surveillance through CCTVs have been taken in view of the possible attacks from terror outfits such as Laskar-e-Taiba. There is, however, no immediate increase in the number of security personnel deployed to secure the embassy building.

As a part of the security measures, the Embassy has also started raising boundary wall and erecting fortification in its premises. The Embassy plans to install a large number of additional CCTVs for better surveillance, officials said.

Likewise, access control is also being improved by erecting boom barriers for vehicles at entry points of the embassy. Better surveillance systems and fortification is expected to tackle terrorists’ attempts to storm the mission premises with an explosive-laden vehicle.

The intelligence reports warned that Jihadi outfits including Talibans were targeting the Indian Embassy in Afganistan too.

Indian government has responded to the warning by sending additional Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) personnel to beef up security in its embassy in Kabul. The move comes just days after the attack on the Indian medical mission in Kabul. India had later suspended work at the
Kabul medical mission.
