Polls Round 2 : Readers to opine on the trend of elections in Sri Lanka this week
For a good interaction between us and the readers, time to time we have been running this Opinion Polls. The latest one is on which party is popular and to what extent in Sri Lanka General Elections as it goes to polls on April 8.
We had said the Opinion Poll will be on for four days every week—Monday to Thursday; and result will be announced on Friday, until the General Elections. And there will be sum total results of all rounds on the election eve.
There are four recognized political parties and independent groups in the fray to select 225 legislators for the 7th Parliament at the General election.
The 225-member Parliament comprises 196 elected members and 29 members from the National List. The candidates from the National List are elected on the basis of election results while 196 candidates are elected to the Legislature under the PR system.
Thanks for those who voted in the first round of the Opinion Poll, we launched on March 8 in our columns, the following results were announced on Friday.
There were 703 who came forward to express opinion in the first round. United Peoples Freedom Alliance (UPFA) polled 87% (611 votes);United National Front (UNF) polled 7% (50 votes); Democratic National Alliance (DNA) polled 3% (21 votes); Tamil National Alliance (TNA) polled 2% (13 votes);Others polled 1% (8 votes).
It can be seen the UPFA was leading far ahead even of main opposition party. However, the second round starts from Monday today, and the expression is free. The second round result will be published on Friday next.
