India: Mayawati buzz: FIR lodged over bees’ invasion at rally
This may sound like a joke but Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati always suspects a conspiracy to disrupt her public rallies—so much so that she has forced the police to lodge an FIR over the sudden ‘invasion’ by bees at her recent Lucknow meeting.
The police have been told to find out who lit the fire that disturbed the beehive, forcing the bees out to the stage and what was the intention?
Deputy Inspector General of Police Rajiv Krishna, who is probing the bee invasion incident, said that prima facie it was clear that the bees swarmed Ramabai Ambedkar rally ground during Mayawati's address after being disturbed by smoke. He told an amused media that it was a “serious incident” as a bee attack could have led to a stampede in which a number of people could have been killed. He said that the opinion of experts in bee behaviour had also been taken.
Addressing a meeting of party leaders, MPs and MLAs, Mayawati alleged that "in a bid to create stampede; under a conspiracy a beehive near the rally ground was disturbed due to which a swarm of bees came towards the stage."
Unperturbed by the sudden appearance of the bees, Mayawati continued her address. "It's a matter of happiness and satisfaction that none of these bees have stung any of the BSP party workers," Mayawati said, adding in a lighter vein, "These bees are felicitating us all in our honour."
However, she did not talk much about the garland of currency notes which created a bigger political buzz.
