Frustrated over Supreme Court's Judgement against Jayalalithaa, the AIADMK MLA's ‘Wore Black Dress:’ Karunanidhi

Sathyalaya Ramakrishnan reporting from Chennai
Chennai, 20 March, (Asiantribune.com):

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi on Friday, expressed disappointment over the opposition AIADMK members coming to the House wearing black dress when it met for a historic session in the new Assembly hall, the world's first Green Legislature building.

In a brief chat with newspersons after the DMK MLA's meet at its party office, he said it appeared that the AIADMK members were upset as their leader J Jayalalithaa lost a case in the Supreme Court.

He said the Supreme Court this morning, dismissed Ms Jayalalithaa's petition seeking to stay the proceedings of the disproportionate assets case against here her.

The case is being tried before a Bangalore Court.

After learning this morning that the apex court dismissed her petition and d
eclined to stay the proceedings, the AIADMK members would have decided to come in black dress, he charged.

Asked about the state budget being silent on Centre seeking two months time on the Mullaperiyar issue, he said the issue was important, but it was unnecessary to point an accusing finger against the union government.

Stating that the Mullaperiyar issue was important as far as Tamil Nadu is concerned, the Chief Minister said his government was very firm that ''we should not give up our rights and put the farmers in the southern region to hardship. This is my view'', he added.

Asked why he chose to visit Pennagaram to campaign for his party, for the March 27 by poll when he had not done so for the previous bypolls, Mr Karunanidhi said the people of Pennagaram should not regret that he had not come for campaigning. He said he had visited the constituency many times to propagate the party's principles. The people of Pennagaram should not feel that he had not come this time, he added.

On Pattali Makkal Katchi's reaction that the state budget was disappointing, the Chief Minister sarcastically said ''they have so many disappointments, what can I do for this''.

Asked about reports in a section of the media that the workers enaged in the construction of the new assembly complex suffered for lack of facilities, he said whatever facility they required had been provided to them.

A day after the inauguration of the complex on March 13, a feast was arranged for the workers and they enjoyed the lunch as well as the musical event, he said.

O.Panneerselvam's denial to Karunanidhi's charges :

Reacting to Karunanidhi's criticism, Former Chief Minister and Deputy leader of the Opposition in the assembly, O.Panneerselvam told Asian Tribune that the Chief Minister's charge against them is ridiculous as the Supreme Court order was announced at 12:30 PM while the AIADMK MLAs came to the Assembly earlier at 9:30 AM.

Mr Panneerselvam further said that this remark of Karunanidhi was nothing more than a tactic of his to dissuade the people from concentrating on his budget that has no use for the common men.
