Road Accident: Malaysian Tamil Killed, van carrying him hurtled down in ghat road

A Malaysian Tamil tourist was killed when a van carrying a group of Malaysians, hurtled down a 45 feet precipice on Palani- Kodaikanal ghat road on Friday. Five others were injured.

A group of 10 Malaysian Tamils from Shambun area of Malaysia had come to Thiruvananthapuram by plane for a tour. On March 13, they had come to Tamil Nadu in a travel agency van in Chennai.

After touring other places, they had reached Palani on Wednesday, where they offered worship at the hill temple and then left for Kodaikanal.

On Friday morning, they had left Kodaikanal by the tourist van on the way to Tiruchy. Perumal (40) of Eachankadu in Chennai was driving the van. When the van was negotiating the seventh hairpin bend about 27km from Palani on the ghat road, the van went out of control and fell down a 45 feet embankment.

Ganesan (54) of Malaysia, the tour leader died on the spot. Paramanathan (43) of Kuala Lumpur, Lalitha (34) her husband Arumugam, Nallatchi (43) and Rajammal (46), wife of Rajan sustained serious injuries and have been admitted to the Palani Government Hospital.

The body of Ganesan was taken to the Kodaikanal Government Hospital for postmortem. Kodaikanal police have registered a case.

The district administration had informed about the accident to Malaysian embassy.
