A major fire breaks out at army canteen in Bangalore

A massive fire broke out in the second floor of the military canteen on M.G. Road at Trinity Circle in Bangalore on Tuesday afternoon. However, there were no casualties, a top fire department official said.
The fire that broke at 4:10 pm engulfed the building. The cause of the fire is yet to be confirmed but there were rumors that the presence of liquor bottles that aggravated the fire.
Police Commissioner Shankar Bidari said, “The cause of the fire will be found only after a thorough examination of the place. But there were no liquor bottles found, so it wasn’t the liquor that aggravated the situation.”
Bidari added: “There were a lot of inflammable objects, like plastics and other paper-made objects, in the room, which is why there was major loss of property.”
24 fire tenders were pressed into service to douse the fire, and the authorities now prefer to wait till they start off with their examination to know the cause of the fire.
As the place, being one of the busiest places in the city, the fire brought traffic to a standstill.
Prior to this incident, on the same date last month there was a major fire accident at the Carlton Towers in Bangalore, in which nine people died and 60 others were injured, many of them seriously.
The same day, Tuesday, there was a devastating fire at a multi-storey building on Park Street in Kolkatta this afternoon. Though there were reports of a few casualties, no official confirmation was immediately available.
Even as 16 fire-fighters fought the flames that kept spreading to new areas in portions of the fifth and sixth floors of the building, simultaneous efforts at evacuating those trapped inside — barely visible in the thick smoke billowing from the interiors — continued for more than two hours after the fire was first spotted at around 2 p.m.
