Colombo, 26 May, (Asiantribune.com):

The 75 member Sri Lankan Tamil asylum seekers who have are presently detained in Malaysia have threatened to go on a fast unto death if their demands of seeking asylum are not met by the Malaysian Authorities.

According to reports reaching Colombo, the group of asylum seekers were stranded in a Multi-day fishing trawler off the coast of Tanjong Piandang, Perak in Malaysia on April 19 when their boat had given engine trouble.

The group of asylum seekers had left Sri Lanka hoping to enter either Australia or New Zealand via Malaysia.

The group has demanded that the Malaysian government and the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNCHR) fulfill their demands to be sent to a third country without further delay. They also demand that they not to be forcibly repatriated to Sri Lanka.

Why can't the rich countries

Why can't the rich countries who approved similar LTTE tactics help these poor civilians.

The point is:
a. They approved similar tactics by terrorists. So they should approve these acts by civilians.
b. When it happened in Sri Lanka they asked SL govt to take responsibility, and find solutions acceptable to them. Now they are outside Lanka. Also, Malaysian govt is only a third party.

So, those countries known for crocodile tears should come forward and help. It is better to save the lives of these people than weeping for a bunch of terrorists who died in retaliation to their own action.
