Warning of 'Serious Consequences:DMK Men threats Jaya TV
The ruling DMK men in Tamil Nadu threatened Jaya TV, a private Channel, which supporting former chief minister Ms J Jayalalithaa, warning of "serious consequences" if it failed to stop telecasting certain programmes, including one relating to the murder of a former DMK Minister Tha. Kriruttinan.
In a complaint to police, a copy of which was released here, a top channel official said they had received a letter in Tamil, stating that a programme featuring a certain person had upset the sender.
It demanded that Jaya TV stop airing it, failing which the man and his family would be killed and the crime attributed to AIADMK leader Jayalalithaa.
The letter also demanded that reports or programmes on the murder of former minister Kiruttinan be stopped and warned Jaya TV it would be "subjected to the same experience as Dinakaran newspaper office" if it failed to pay heed.
The letter, sent by one Vaigai Puyal Balu from Madurai, also demanded that AIADMK leader Jayalalithaa cancel her proposed rally in Madurai next month, K P Sunil, vice-president (News), said in the complaint.
The channel requested the DGP to initiate suitable investigation and apprehend the culprit, provide adequate security cover for Jayalalithaa and increase security cover for the channel office.
On August 28, Jaya TV had received a threatening letter warning of a bomb attack on AIADMK leader Jayalalithaa during her proposed rally in Madurai next month.
Mr Sunil also requested the DGP to initiate suitable investigation and apprehend the culprit behind the letter and enhance security cover to Ms Jayalalithaa, who is under Z plus category.
Ms Jayalalithaa had told newspersons in Nilgiris on Thursday that she was not afraid of threats and would go ahead with her address at a rally in Madurai.
The letter in Tamil claimed that a programme, featuring one Mr Pasumpon Pandian, which was telecast in the channel had upset the sender. It threatened that Mr Pandian would be murdered along with his family and the murder would be attributed to ''Leader Jaya'' (Ms Jayalalithaa) by one ''Annan''.
Mr Sunil said the letter warned the channel to stop telecasting any reports or programmes relating to the murder of ''Tha Ki''-the former DMK Minister Tha Krittinan, failing which, Jaya TV would be subjected to the same experience of 'Dinakaran', the newspaper office in Madurai, which was set on fire.
The letter also asked Ms Jayalalithaa to cancel her proposed meeting at Madurai, which is reportedly the ''fortress'' of one ''Anjaa Nenjan''(DMK people used to call union fertilizer minister and chief minister Karunanidhi's son M K Alagiri as "Anja Nenjan'). The letter also warned that ''Jaya's end was in the hands of Annan''.
