Under the DMK rule, no protection to the lives and assets of the people - Jayalalithaa accuses

Sathyalaya Ramakrishnan reporting from Chennai
Chennai, 06 September, (Asiantribune.com):

The All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam(AIADMK) general secretary and former chief minister of Tamil Nadu J Jayalalithaa has said that there was no protection to lives and assets of the people in Tamil Nadu.

In a hard hitting statement, Ms jayalalitha demanded immediate action against a top official of a private satellite television channel who was allegedly behind the attack on a city hotel.

The attack on the hotel followed an assault by the supporters of Saxena, the Chief Executive Officer of 'Sun TV net work', on a woman Deepa and her brother after vehicles collided on East Coast Road, Ms Jayalalithaa alleged in a statemen that condemned police inaction against the attackers.

Deepa was supported by the owner of a star hotel (Checkers Hotel) in Little Mount, leading to the hotel being attacked by about 150 unidentified rowdies. Deepa's house was also attacked and she and another person based at Anna Nagar were given death threats.

"The police have filed cases and arrested a few people af ter a lot of delay. However, it is said that the police depart ment is unaware of the whereabouts of Saxena, the brain behind the attack," the AIADMK leader said.

Ms Jayalalithaa asked whether or not it was the duty of Chief Minister M Karunanidhi, who holds the Home portfolio, to have ordered the arrest of Saxena.

Fitting lesson

She also raised apprehension that the case might meet the same fate as the case of the murder of former minister Kiruttinan and the Madurai newspaper burning case.

The AIADMK leader alleged that there was no protection to the lives and assets of the peo ple in Tamil Nadu and urged the electorate to teach Karunanidhi a "fitting lesson" in the forthcoming elections to the Assembly.
