Angelina Jolie visits Pakistan’s flood-hit areas to highlight needs of flood victims
The UNHCR goodwill Ambassador Angelina Jolie visited flood-hit areas in northwest Pakistan on Tuesday.
The Oscar-winning actress flew to Islamabad via Heathrow to start emergency fundraising for the devastated region and highlighting the suffering of millions of flood victims and the need for continuing aid for the displaced.
On Tuesday she visited flood-hit areas in Nowshera, Khyber Pukhtunkhwa province and met the people there specially women.
She will be visiting other flood affected areas on Wednesday as the personal envoy of UN High Commissioner for Refugees António Guterres.
Angelina, backed by partner BRAD PITT, 46, will film fresh appeals for cash to help the 20 million people affected by the disaster.
She has already donated £65,000 of her own money to the cause, a year after giving £650,000 to help.
The award-winning actress last visited the country in November 2005 after a devastating earthquake swept northern Pakistan.
Pakistanis displaced by warring Taliban militants. The floods that first hit Pakistan in July have affected millions. This is the worst floods in the history of the country and is facing the massive humanitarian crisis as flooding continues across vast areas.
