Another migrant ship on the way?

BY Joseph Thavaraja
10 September, (Asiantribune.com):

Another ship loaded with Tamil refugees may be on its way to Canada, crossing the Pacific Ocean.

The 'Post Media News' Wire services, quoting Canadian CTVNews on Monday said that Canadian federal officials were preparing to turn this unidentified ship away.

Post Media News (PMN) added that Canadian Public Safety Minister Vic Toews' spokesman Chris McCluskey 'would not confirm that another ship is en route.'

On Aug. 12, the cargo ship MV Sun Sea carrying 492 migrants was boarded by the RCMP. The migrants were ethnic Tamils from Sri Lanka and are now requesting refugee status and are being held in the Fraser Regional Correctional Centre in Maple Ridge. The 50 children with them are held separately

PMN added: "In Paris, Immigration Minister Jason Kenney said the federal government will attempt to toughen its domestic anti-smuggling law with harsher penalties and seek a formal accord with the European Union in a two-pronged bid to contain the inflow of bogus refugee claimants. Kenney made the pledge after a meeting with fellow ministers from France, Britain, Germany, Italy, Greece and Belgium. The seven, representing some of the world’s top recipient countries for asylum-seekers, agreed to look for ways to accelerate the removal of failed claimants."
