Lalin’s Column: Kandulu Jayasuriya (KJ) poisons SL

He has ignored that 300,000 Tamils used by the terrorists as human shields were liberated in that month and the country was freed from the 30 year terrorist scourge that had taken nearly 100,000 lives.

Pilgrims interrupted progress. The immediate reason for his concern was to spearhead an INGO inspired stab and thrust to follow up on the fall out of the President’s aborted address to the Oxford Union. KJ sinking fastest in the quagmire of internal leadership struggles of the UNPee believed he had been thrown a life line. He made use of the opportunity to promote himself by making borrowed speeches. He believed they would move the Western world. That he was permanently regarded as a turn coat by many worried him not a bit.

NGO snipers had KJ in their sights. The NGOs zeroed in. Aware of his varied complexes and skills especially in changing horses in mid stream, they knew that they had netted a Don Quixote in KJ. They gave him a cunningly crafted Western oriented document (WOD not WOG) with which to go public but seated him not on a horse but a Diaspora donkey. They paid him to bray for all he was worth. Being more familiar with a home spun, common or garden variety of English, he believed the WOD to be his political re entry vehicle from the oblivion he had been heading for. He punched into thin air. Never having heard of Sophia Loren, he demanded and was enticed to land on a Sunday – Fifth December 2010, a day not to be of rest but infamy. Colombo 7 howled.

Of all people one Kandulu Jayasuriya (KJ) at the close of play in 2010 in tandem with the West bemoans the lack of liberty and the loss of lives in May 2009 of people he calls ‘our fellow citizens’ in SL.

Ambushed . KJ had been a caught in a classic media ambush. His inglorious pincer movement with the NGOs was timed to support the LTTE Diaspora foray in Kit was verbally turned, counter attacked and cut into little bits and pieces on Monday at Diyawanna by a past master of the similar riding skills. The unkindest thrust was when he was abandoned by the aspiring UNPee leader to be, Sajith. For once ‘et tu Brute’ was not KJ.

Where was KJ when JRJ declared ‘war’? In 1977 KJ knew what it meant when JRJ said ‘if the Tamils want war they will have it’. KJ did not then or later protests any part of the declaration that ‘targeted’ not just ‘our own fellow civilians’ but a specific helpless minority. For all round his political defence and survival he avoided identifying the ‘citizens’ as Tamils. But did he protest the killings, arson, robbery and worse of Tamils that followed under the leadership of his colleagues in 1983? For many years thereafter SL was referred to as a pariah state. During this whole time KJ was an ‘honourable’ minister in the government and an ambassador too. What was his concern for his ‘...fellow citizens’ then and up to 2010?

Master of changing horses in mid stream. KJ decided many years after the ‘Pariah’ status had been lifted to change horses in mid stream and side with MR’s decision to wage war. He boasts he did and that he was for 7 years also a Saturday night soldier politically commissioned and promoted Lt Col overnight. He chooses now to ignore that in a civil conflict situation it's our ‘own fellow citizens’ that are killed unless of course the IPKF was also counted. It’s not as if he thought those who were going to die when the war was being fought were not ‘ours’. All of them were our own, all 100,000 in 30 years of conflict. He had come riding in to be there at the ‘kill’ post 2007.Unscrupulously he compromised sixteen others from the party he had been a member of from the day he took to politics. He had expected to be well rewarded by MR but was disappointed when he got nothing more than an insignificant ministry matching his dispensable turn coat status. He like the chocolate soldier he portrays himself to be, got cold feet when a stale mate appeared to be developing in the battle field in Mannar in 2008. He had also heard that a leadership crisis was developing in his old haunted party.

He switched horses once again. He had hopes of receiving a prodigal son’s welcome on his return and of becoming the chief ghost buster. Instead he was humoured with a toothless appointment while the rank and file looked at him deservedly as a despicable opportunist. This did not penetrate his seasoned nut. When the LTTE was bowled over on the banks of the Nandikadal lagoon in May 2009, he went into well concealed hibernation for 18 months and only woke up to the chimes of Oxford in December 2010.

The Western myth of the unwinnable war. KJ’s friends were mainly appeasers who Churchill described as ones who feed the crocodile hoping their turn would come only at the last. The leaders of the appeasers to whom KJ paid allegiance concluded that the ‘war’ was unwinnable. They were advised by the Western fifth column, INGOs, certain media and contracted Indian army officers who had themselves failed the practical test when in SL. KJ did not break ranks then. They repeated ad nauseam that ‘negotiations’ with the terrorists were the only way forward even as it was obvious that the terrorist leader scorned such gutless naivety. That terrorist leader held the fawning ‘negotiators’ in absolute and utter contempt. It mattered little to KJ and the appeasers that the West having criminally invaded Iraq and Afghanistan who were even then contemplating bugging out in the face of massive reverses there, were advising SL on the conduct of its war. Their version of bringing peace to the Balkans had been to bomb Serbia into the Stone Age. The Afghan Taliban had remained basically in the Stone Age as far as warring was concerned so bombing them had little effect. KJ didn’t object. After all his ‘bombers’ had white eyes unlike ‘our own’.

Responsibility for failures and treachery. Consequently those appeasers were wholly responsible from the beginning of the SL conflict in 1977 up to 1994 and grievously so in 2002/3, for shackling the Armed Forces. They cravenly consented to the invasion of SL by the IPKF. The appeasers then went beyond the pale by treacherously giving copious weapons and ammo to the LTTE to be used against the IPKF that was now its ‘ally’. They chose three of their handpicked, spineless and perfidious ‘Generals’ to commit that fell deed. Those munitions were later used against the SL forces with terrible consequences. Wikileaks outlines other acts of collaboration in 2002/3 when KJ was a cabinet minister including gifting communications equipment, helping a terrorist ship escape and convincingly introducing the notorious third party canard to cover a terrorist action by blaming the JVP for firing on a SL Navy ship. KJ must share that guilt even if he is immune to the pain of its consequences. Little did he realise that he had fast forwarded his appointment with the crocodile that his party leaders had fed with innocent lives for much of the 30 years of war.

Oldest profession. When he realised that he had been taken for a sucker he tried to give a spin to it on TV but he could not hide his looks of utter devastation and shock if not mortal fear. So too did Madawachchi Ravi and the Milky (Kiriella)Way in their turn, part of the Royal trio together with its leader of the same stables that blackened the forces during the conflict. Their under siege cunning leader sensing this could also have been a sneak attack to undermine his own position, allowed KJ to stew. KJ should have known that politics is the second oldest profession in the world but less respectable than the first.

HR standards of KJ's Western Gods. KJ while shamelessly raking up allegations about the SL forces would do well to remember what his western Gods did in Fallujah, Iraq from 2003. Leave aside what they have been doing in Afghanistan from 2001 if not before for centuries. This is a total of over 15 years of serial war crimes. In 1991 a RAF Tornado aircraft dropped a bomb on a crowded market that killed 130 Iraqis and wounded several more. In 2003 the US 82nd Airborne Brigade fired on a crowd of civilians and killed 17 and wounded 60. Yet KJ says his heart bleeds for their version of HR and despises ours and Asia’s specifically India’s and China’s.

Contrast worth considering. In 2004 the US Army Marines and Iraqi army (10,000 strong) took on Fallujah again in a street fighting assault from which 200,000 of its 300,000 civilians escaped before the final bloody successful battle. The humanitarian problem almost over whelmed the combined American (only super power) and Iraqi organizations. The 1,200 heavily armed insurgents were located in schools, hospitals and mosques and were joined by thousands more as the fighting progressed. Would this remind KJ if not others of the contrast to SL’s final battle at Nandikadal and the prevailing situation now? It does not need to be restated. Even the SL refugees in Tamil Nadu want to return. In contrast Fallujah remained a ghost city for years and Iraq remains bloodily tormented. Afghanistan is a killing field. So who other than rejected KJ and his cronies and the Diaspora Front are calling SL ‘black’ for liberating the Tamils from the fascist LTTE? Why did KJ front for the NGO ghost writers? Did he ever expect the SL government to go hat in hand to the pale faced ‘Great White Fathers’ in the IC to ask forgiveness for the plight of ‘our own fellow citizens’ as he calls them in the final show down?

KJ’s hysterical anti Asian racism. The West wants to know how many were killed in Nandikadal in the last few days of the May 2009. KJ wishes to help them in the count. Desperately depending on an illusion that few share of western superiority, KJ in his borrowed piece blackens the Asian powers that Asians if not the rest of the world, look up to with pride. KJ has exposed his true inner racist feelings and inferiority complex. His leader exploits this pitilessly.MR saw through KJ’s hypocrisy long ago.

Berserk. KJ also went berserk defying anyone to call him a ‘kotiya’ (LTTE Tiger). Any one who does so demeans the LTTE and must certainly be insane. The LTTE were ready to die for their cause and when surrounded did so to the last man. Who believes KJ is ready to die for any of the myriad causes he has from time to time espoused? What KJ is being called now is a word worse than ‘kotiya’. It does not lose its sting by being decried by him and his desperate cronies as undeserving simply because it has been used frequently to describe them and him.

Civil War comparisons USA - SL. In the biggest civil war convulsion the world has known over one million were killed in the USA from 1861-4. It exceeded all the USA deaths in the 1812 war, two World Wars, Korea and Vietnam. It was fought to prevent separation of the nation and for the emancipation of slaves, a noble cause despite the bloodshed. In SL‘s war there were about 100,000 deaths of ‘our own people’ in 30 years. The country is one and secure. There are no more death camps, human waves of child soldier slaves (forcibly stolen from their parents and forced into battle) coming out to die, bomb strapped suicide zombies or 300,000 human shields today. The evil Prabakaran is no more. Yet KJ wishes the IC to poke around SL’s war diaries with a Western HR/INGO searchlight. He juxtaposes this demand with the attitude of Asian countries with whom he finds fault as they have no desire to muck around with what is SL’s duty and is being carried out competently by the LLRC. KJ can have his final fling there if he dares. The crocodile however waits, whether it is at Nandikadal, the Biera or Diyawanna.
