Lankan University in Maldives

Male, 20 January, (Asiantribune.com):

Plans are afoot to set up a university affiliated to Sri Lanka’s Sri Jayawardenepura University, in the Maldives.

A delegation from the Lankan Ministry of Higher Education will travel to the Maldives soon to discuss the plan.

Already there are many Maldivians studying in Lanka.

Lankan Higher Education Minister has told Heveeru that the “move will help students who want to pursue their higher studies but cannot afford to do a degree in Sri Lanka and those who want to complete their higher studies in Maldives itself.”

Initially, a management faculty affiliated to the Sri Jayewardenepura University will be set up offering “postgraduate degrees and diplomas in subjects such as business management, business administration, marketing, finance and IT.”

The Minister said the move will strengthen Maldives-Lankan ties.

“We have been sharing a very close relationship with Maldives and we want to take an initiation in setting up a Sri Lankan university for the first time there,” Dissanayake has said.

The Minister also met with Maldivian High Commissioner in Lanka Hussain Shihab recently to discuss the project.
