Royal Wedding 2011: Yesterday was Dress Rehearsals Day

Hemantha Abeywardena writes from London…

royal3.JPGOn Wednesday, the Royal couple participated in a rehearsal of the service which will take place on Friday before a vast global audience. The Dean of Westminster Abbey was in attendance for the event along with Prince Harry, the best man.

In line with the tradition, the bride has chosen to stay with her family in Goring Hotel in Belgravia on Thursday. The media has spotted mysteriously-tall dressing item which was taken into the hotel along with numerous boxes of dresses and hats. So, they drew the conclusion that the ‘item’ in question may be the wedding dress that the bride is going to wear on Friday, which certainly would be the focus of fashion enthusiasts.

Middletons have arrived at the hotel along with Kate’s sister Pippa and brother James, who is an entrepreneur running a cake company. Pippa was all smiles yesterday, as she drove her mother from her home in Berkshire to London.

Prince William, meanwhile, is going to be with his immediate family at Clarence House with Prince of Wales, Duchess of Cornwall and Prince Harry. They are going to have a private dinner – the last one of that king when Prince William is a bachelor.

Since billions of people are going to watch the big event, the military took part in their own rehearsals to complement the carnival atmosphere on Friday.

As the stage is set for a perfect celebration, the fans of the Royal family hope the predicted heavy showers will not spoil the occasion. Security around the area, where the celebration will take place, has been beefed up to keep any would-be saboteurs at bay. The Islamist group which threatened to disrupt the celebrations, seems to have backed down - perhaps fearing reprisals.
