Sri Lanka’s Mini poll in July 23rd –Election Department
Sri Lanka’s e elections for the remaining 67 Local Government bodies will be held on the 23rd of July, said the spokesman for the Department of Elections.
Government earlier held elections for 234 of the 335 local authorities in the country on 17 March 2011.
But elections were postponed to 101 councils mainly due to legal challenges against ‘nomination rejections’ and for the Cricket World Cup.
The United National Party has called applications for the candidature for 34 local government council for which elections were held on March 17 with the other local bodies.
The UNP urges the persons vying for party candidature at the elections for these local government bodies to send their applications to the party secretary.
