Why this Kolaveri Di?

Actor_Dhanush.jpgWhy this Kolaveri Di (Why this lethal rage, girl?), is the latest YouTube sensation that has been ransacking the internet since its official release on 16th November.

The song was released as a promo attempt for Kollywood actor Dhanush’s upcoming movie ‘3’ directed by none other than his wife Aishwarya Rajinikanth- Dhanush. The music was created by 18 year old composer Anirudh Ravichander and the lyrics penned by actor Dhanush who also sang the song.

After its official release on 16th November, the song became a viral hit amongst YouTube users receiving 1.3 million YouTube views on 21st November while being shared by more than one million users on Facebook and constantly threading on twitter across India.

The lyrics used in the song were in ‘Tanglish’ (Tamil- English) and according to reports Dhanush penned the lyrics within 20 minutes. This song is reportedly the first ever “Tamil” song that was broadcasted on MTV India and is a viral hit amongst many non-Tamilians. YouTube went had honored the video with a “Recently Most Popular Gold Medal Award” for receiving a large number of hits in a short time.

The video has received 20 million plus views as of date and along with the original version there are countless remixes, imitations and parodies being uploaded on YouTube by users and other artists.

The latest craze on YouTube after the release of the original version was produced by R&B singer Arjun Coomaraswamy which was uploaded on YouTube on 10th December creating a buzz amongst youngsters across the world with the video having 1.5 million views within a week.

Although the song is a huge hit there are those who are left perplexed over the success of the song, this including the creators of the song themselves who have admitted that they are flabbergasted over the outrageous success the song has become posing as a challenge for director Aishwarya Rajinikanth Dhanush who has to come up visual tribute to the song to match up to the hype the song has created since many are eagerly waiting to watch the song in the movie which is set to be released in 2012.
