Sri Lanka to repatriate today afternoon, all 35 Indian fishermen rescued by Sri Lanka Navy in the month of December
All the 35 Indian fishermen who have been rescued by the Sri Lanka Navy in the Sri Lankan waters are to be repatriated back to India this afternoon, on the request made by the Indian Government.
According to Sri Lankan Navy spokesman Commander Kosala Warnakulasuriya, earlier in the month of December 2011, Sri Lankan Navy rescued 29 fishermen who were poaching near the islands of Delft and Analaitivu as their boats were grounded due to cyclonic impact.
“We rescued them and handed over to the Police for investigation and to initiate court procedures, he said.
Commander Kosala Warnakulasuriya further said, “After that the High Commission of India in Colombo and the Sri Lankan High Commission in India made a request to search for the missing 21 Indian fishermen and five boats affected due to ‘Thane’ Cyclone.
Subsequently, he said, the Sri Lanka Navy launched a search and rescue operation and they rescued six Indian fishermen and two boats. They were also produced to the Police for further investigations.
Speaking to Asian Tribune, Commander Kosala Warnakulasuriya said, today, in the afternoon, the Sri Lanka Government has arranged to repatriate to India all the 35 Indian fishermen and two boats, rescued by the Sri Lanka Navy.
