The Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam(DMK) patriarch and former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi has once again raised the slogan, "Dravida Nadu-Dravidarukkay", which was buried by his mentor and late Chief Minister Perarignar Anna (Annadurai) in early sixties.

Launching the centenary celebrations of the Dravidian movement, DMK president M. Karunanidhi on Monday revived the slogan of ‘Dravida Naadu for Dravidians', saying even if he was not there, more Karunanidhis would emerge to realise the goal.

Recalling the days he launched a campaign against the Hindi on the streets of Tiruvarur, Mr Karunanidhi said his descendants and followers would continue to carry on the struggle.

One Karunanidhi goes, more will emerge

“If one Karunanidhi goes, more Karunanidhis will certainly emerge,” he said. He was confident that the Dravidian ideology would be strengthened, Tamil Nadu would prosper and, if possible, a Dravidian State would be achieved.

Mr. Karunanidhi also stressed the need for continuously avenging past injustice suffered by Dravidians at the hands of their enemies.

Reeling out statistics to show that Brahmins dominated every field, including education, in the beginning of 1900s in the state, he said the situation changed in favour of other communities because of the emergence of the Justice Party and leaders of the Dravidian Movement.

Reiterating that he was raising these issues now not to remove the AIADMK government or to prepare the DMK to stage a comeback, he said Tamil Nadu was being ruled by a government that could not tolerate terms such as ‘Dravidian', ‘Tamil' and ‘Semmozhi'.

Dravidians treated like cattles

DMK general secretary K. Anbazhagan said Dravidians were once treated like cattle meant for slaughter but they would no longer tolerate such treatment.

Stressing that a person could protect himself and those with him only if he had self-respect, Mr. Anbazhagan quoted former Chief Minister C.N. Annadurai as saying, “We cannot fight for justice against our enemies after handing over power to them.”

DMK treasurer M.K. Stalin, former Supreme Court Judge Justice S. Mohan, Dravidar Kazhagam leader K. Veeramani and Tamil scholars Ma. Nannan and Suba Veerapandian spoke.
