Mahinda Rajapaksa, President of Sri Lanka, arrived in Astana today

Mahinda Rajapaksa, President of Sri Lanka, arrived in Astana today for a state visit. He was invited to visit the Kazakh capital by President Nursultan Nazarbayev.

President Mahinda Rajapaksa and First Lady was received at the at Astana International Airport airport by Mr.Yerbolat Dosayev Minister of Economic Development and Trade of Kazakhstan.

Also Mr.Udayanga Weeratunga , Ambassador to Russia who is also accredited Kazakastan was at the airport to receive Sri Lankan President and the First Lady.

Altai Abibullayev, official spokesperson for the Central Communications Service, confirmed the news at a Monday briefing that Sri Lanka President is invited by Kazakastan President for a state visit to the country.

He further added that, two presidents are to discuss the problems of political and commercial and economic cooperation between the two countries as well as to exchange views on relevant issues of international policy and security.

Altai Abibullayev, also added that "An agreement on cooperation in the sphere of tourism and a memorandum on mutual understanding between the Kazakh Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce of Sri Lanka will be signed following the top-level negotiations in Astana."
