Signatories to the impeachment must declare their assets first!

S.H.Moulana -Riyadh

We sincerely congratulate Ven. Sobitha Thera for his meaningful challenge for all those who initiated the impeachment on the Chief Justice. There is a proverb in English that ‘those who live in glass houses should not throw stones at others!’Sobitha_Thero.jpg

Addressing the media on Monday, Ven. Sobitha Thera challenged all signatories to the impeachment motion against Chief Justice, Dr. Shirani Bandaranayake, now before a Parliamentary Select Committee to declare their assets and liabilities before asking others to do so. We can bet our bottom Rupee that the UPFA MPs who have dutifully signed the impeachment motion would rather withdraw their signatures than take up the prelate's challenge.

We urge all right thinking people in Sri Lanka to join Ven. Thera to demand the declaration of assets of all signatories rather than dropping the impeachment. We will see then how many of those signatories will come clean. I am now reminded of another English saying ‘Kettle calling the pot black!’ This impeachment issue has done enough damage to our country internationally. Is this a ploy of those in power to get the people occupied with a non-issue, when they have so many other urgent problems to attend to. Let us all join Ven. Sobitha Thera in the demand he has rightfully initiated.
