Ambassador Shavendra Silva not to be cross-posted to South Africa

Reports reveal that Sri Lanka Government has no intention of cross-posting Ambassador Shavendra Silva as the deputy high commissioner to South Africa.

Shavendra Silva was the Commander Sri Lankan army’s 58th division, which was one of the key divisions which fought during the final stages of the conflict against the LTTE in 2009.

Imediately after the conclusion of the conflict, Brigadier Shavendra Silva was promoted as Major General and posted as Deputy Permanent Representative of Sri Lanka Mission in New York.

Subsequently, Sri Lankan President elevated him as Ambassador holding position as Deputy Permanent Representative of the Sri Lanka Mission in New York.

On the recommendation of the Asian Group, he was appointed as a member of the Senior Advisory Group of UN Peacekeeping Operations in accordance with the UN General Assembly Resolution 65/289 and pursuant to the decision taken by the Group of Asia and the Pacific Small Island Developing States, now recognized as 'The Asian Group,' by which representing the interest of the 57 members of this Group.

Latest report reveals that as one of the Senior Generals in the midst of UN Peacekeeping Operation, he is presently in Lebanon inspecting the troops movement.

'Asian Tribune' learnt that once the tour of duty in Lebanon is over, Ambassador Shavendra Silva will be back to Sri Lanka’s Permanent Mission in New York, and continue as Deputy Permanent Representative.
