37 Indian fishermen arrested in the Eastern Sri Lankan waters with their 5 trawlers
The Navy has arrested at least 37 Indian fishermen from Nagapattinam in Tamil Nadu, with five trawlers off Pulmodai, Trincomalee in the early hours of yesterday while they were fishing in Sri Lankan waters, Navy Spokesman Commander Kosala Warnakulasuriya said.
They were earlier being detained in the Trincomalee Navy camp and would and subsequently were handed over to the Trincomalee harbour police yesterday, he said.
Naval Patrol Craft attached to the Eastern Naval Command arrested 37 Indian fishermen and 05 Indian fishing vessels engaged in poaching in the Eastern seas of Sri Lanka in the early hours of 03rd December 2012.
The vessels and the fishermen were brought to the Trincomalee Harbour to be handed over to the Harbour Police for legal action.
