MDMK dissident leader Nanjil Sampath joins AIADMK:Jayalalithaa appoints him as Deputy Propaganda Secretary

Nanjil Sampath receiving the AIADMK membership card from J Jayalalithaa Nanjil Sampath, a long time associate of Marumalarchi Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (MDMK) leader Vaiko, on Tuesday joined the ruling All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) and was immediately appointed as Deputy Propaganda Secretary by party chief Ms Jayalalithaa.

Mr. Sampath, who had differences with Mr. Vaiko, called on Ms. Jayalalithaa at her Poes Garden residence and formally joined the party.

The induction of Mr. Sampath, a renowned orator, into the AIADMK is expected to give a boost to the party ahead of the next Lok Sabha elections.

The rift between Mr. Vaiko and Mr. Sampath, who was also MDMK propaganda secretary, came to the fore recently when the latter attacked the MDMK Chief saying he was being sidelined by the party leadership because of his increasing popularity.

Mr. Sampath was one of the DMK old-timers who followed Mr. Vaiko when MDMK was launched.
