Muslim NGOs welcome Government Move to Build Ambedkar Memorial: Demand To Handover Ismail Yusuf College To Muslims

Mumbai, 07 December, (Asiantribune.com):

A group of Muslim NGOs have welcomed the government move to allot the twelve and a half hectares of Indu Mills land in Dadar for a memorial to Dalit leader Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar.

The representatives of Muslim NGOs have lauded the Central and State governments effort as it will serve to pacify the much-afflicted Dalit community.

Maulana Mahmood Daryabadi, General Secretary, All India Ulama Council and Maulana Burhanuddin Qasmi, Director, Markazul Maarif Education and Research Centre in a joined press statement, while appreciating the government’s present move, have expressed their distress that even after decades nothing has been done about the unused land at Ismail Yusuf College in Mumbai’s Jogeshwari area.

The college is facing dire times as despite several representations to the government, the authorities have not decided to hand over the college to Muslim hands. They have visited government offices and met ministers to solve the problem, but it has been of no avail. The waqf land property is being continually encroached with by the land mafia under the state government’s nose.

There have been reports that parcels of the prime land were being proposed to be handed over for commercial exploitation.

Muslins NGOs have once again reiterated their demand to handover the management of Ismail Yusuf College along with its all property to a Muslim body so that it could be run in a better manner and a modern campus could be constructed on the open grounds and even a university could be established.

This could provide an opportunity to improve the education conditions of Muslims in the city as well as in the state of Maharashtra.
