Bishops and Other religious dignitaries participated in the Christmas ceremony organized by the Army

Colombo, 23 December, (Asiantribune.com):

Bishops and other religious dignitaries participated in the Christmas ceremony organized by the Army in Kilinochchi.

A special Christmas event was organized by the Security Forces Commander Killincochchi, Major General Udaya Perera was held in Killinochchi yesterday, 21 Dec 12.

Children and adults representing all communities attended this event and it was a colorful one with Christmas Carols, Fire Works, etc.

200 scholarships were awarded to selected students from the area marking the event more meaningful with the spirit of Christmas.

Newly recruited Tamil girls from Killinochchi and Mullaitivu districs added color to the event by taking part in Christmas Carols.

Many dignitaries attended the event and among them were Rt Rev Dr Rayappu Joseph the Bishop of Mannar, Rt Rev Dr Thomal Saundaranayakam the Bishop of Jaffna, Rt Rev Daniel Tyagarajah the Bishop of Church of South India-Jaffna, Rev Sugatha Thero from Mankulam Temple, Hindu Priests, Maulavis of the Mosque, Mr. Chandra Kumara M.P., Mr. Udita Lokubandara M.P., Security Force Commander Major General Udaya Perera, and DIG Mr Neel Daluwatta.

A large number of people from Vavunia, Jaffna, Killinochchi, Mullaitivu, and Mannar districts attended the event.

A special feature was the 80 feet tall Christmas tree which many people believed the tallest in the country.

Please give publicity as much as possible to this step of reconciliation in the right direction.
