Sweden's Princess Madeleine To Marry In June

Stockholm, 23 December, (

Swedish_Princess.jpgSweden's royal family says Princess Madeleine's wedding will take place on Saturday, June 8, at the Royal Palace chapel in down-town Stockholm.

King Carl XVI Gustaf and Queen Silvia's youngest daughter was engaged to U.S.-British boyfriend Christopher O'Neill, a 38-year-old New York banker, in late October.

The couple met in New York, where the princess has been living since April 2010. Princess Madeleine has been working there with the World Childhood Foundation, a charity for marginalized children set up in 1999 by her mother.. London-born O'Neill, 38, works in finance.

Madeleine's older sister is Crown Princess Victoria, 35, who married Daniel Westling in June 2010. They have a daughter, Princess Estelle, born in February. Madeleine also has a brother, Prince Carl Philip, 33.

The royal family's chief spokesman Bertil Tenert said Sunday that wedding organizers will now start planning details of the nuptials. He added that Madeleine's wedding will be smaller than Crown Princess Victoria's wedding two years ago in Stockholm.

Princess Madeleine, 30, is the youngest child of King Carl XVI Gustaf and Queen Silvia and fourth in line to the throne.

The Swedish royal family has only ceremonial duties, such as supporting charities and promoting Swedish businesses.
