Execution of Rizana Nafeek imminent
'Asian Tribune' has learnt through its sources in Saudi Arabia that Saudi Arabia has revoked the suspension on the execution of Sri Lanka’s housemaid Rizana Nafeek and it has now become imminent that she will be executed anytime, despite appeals and prayers of 20 million Sri Lankans and sympathizers all over the world including Saudi Arabia.
In the meantime, Asian Tribune also learnt that upon learning that the execution of Rizana Nafeek has become imminent, Sri Lanka President Mahinda Rajapaksa issued another appeal to Saudi King Abdullah bin Abdul Aziz Al-Saud, requesting his intervention in suspending the decision, so that the parties involved can continue to try to convince the parents to grant a pardon.
This was revealed to Asian Tribune by Ms. Anuradha K. Herath, Director International Media of President's Office, Sri Lanka.
Furthermore, Director International Media stated that President’s appeal was delivered to Saudi Ambassador in Colombo.
She further stated, “The foreign ministry and others have been working on this matter throughout, ever since Ms. Nafeek’s sentence was reconfirmed.”
She added, “ President Rajapaksa has also been closely monitoring the developments of the case.”
