D.M. Gunasekara - New General Manager at Bank of Ceylon

New_GM_Photo.jpgSenior banker Mr.D.M. Gunasekara has been appointed as the new General Manager of Bank of Ceylon with effect from 8th January 2013.

Mr.Gunasekara most recently served as the Deputy General Manager Retail Banking of BOC. He counts for 29 years of experience in banking sector including Corporate banking, International banking, Off-shore banking and most recently Retail banking prior to the appointment of the General Manager of BOC.

Mr.Gunasekara joined BOC in 1983 after having graduated from the University of Colombo with a Special Degree in Public Finance and Taxation in 1981. He has successfully completed programme on Corporate Management for Sri Lanka (LK2M2 AOTS) in Japan and Advanced Management Programme conducted by the Wharton University of Pensylvania, USA. He is an Associate Member of the Institute of Bankers of Sri Lanka. Mr.Gunasekara has participated in workshops and training programmes in over 15 countries during his tenure at BOC.

Commencing his career with Retail banking, Mr.Gunasekara has amassed a wealth of knowledge and experience in credit management and administration. Serving at the BOC London branch from 1997 to 2000, he obtained comprehensive experience in international banking operations.

As an Associate Faculty Member of the Bank’s Training Institute, Mr.Gunasekera has readily responded for uplifting the knowledge of the BOC staff. He is a Non-Executive nominee Director on the boards of Ceybank Asset Management (Private) Limited since August 2010 and Ceybank Holiday Homes (Private) Limited since June 2009. He also served as a Non-Executive nominee Director on the boards of Merchant Credit of Sri Lanka from 2008 to 2009.

As his future aspirations Mr.Gunasekara stated that “BOC is a bank that understands the diverse needs of the Sri Lankan people, it is my pleasure to state that we are in a process of making arrangements to transform the strides of the journey we have travelled thus far, in a more exceptional manner. While growing our island-wide banking services network, we have plans to expand our presence internationally. The technological advancement will result in simplifying banking transaction process for our customers. He further stated that in doing so, all of our financial services will be innovative, through the technology of tomorrow”.

Mr. Gunasekera further stated that the bank is making an immense contribution to the nation’s economic development in line with the Government policies to assist the development of the country and guiding entrepreneurs to reach greater heights which makes Bank of Ceylon the “bankers to the nation”.
