Colombo, 05 February, (Asiantribune.com): Declaring that his Government will not bow down to any form of intimidation, President Mahinda Rajapakse today vowed to usher in a 'New Sri Lanka'. Addressing the 58th Independence Day celebrations held at the Galle Face Green, the President also stressed that his Government's peace process will be a transparent one.

"The biggest challenge before us is the North East conflict, but within the next few days peace talks will begin between the Government and the LTTE," he assured.

The President also extended due credit to the Opposition as well as to his Government with regard to the resumption of peace talks. "I am not a politically bankrupt or self centered politician to enjoy all the praise by my self, due credit must be given to my Government members as well the Opposition for the initiative taken to resume the peace process," he noted.
