Colombo, 16 November, (Asiantribune.com): [/b]At this Presidential Elections 1.5 million Sri Lankans who are working in other countries have lost their privilege to vote. They constitute 12 percent of the total number of eligible voters and the majority of them are working in the Middle-east.

These Sri Lankan working in foreign countries have contributed 17 percent of the total savings in the country and 20 percent of the foreign exchange, are unfortunately have been deprived of making their contribution in the political process in the country.

Though several elections were held consequent to the introduction of Regulations in 1996 to allow the expatriate workers to participate in the public affairs as a basic human right, these regulations have not been so far implemented.
