Eelavar Democratic Front (EDF) Expected to Join UPFA to Contest Eastern Provincial Council Elections

Colombo, 01 April, (Asiantribune.com): The Eelavar Democratic Front (EDF) of EROS will be contesting the forthcoming Eastern Provincial Council elections in May, it was announced today by their Senior Leader Nesan Shankar Raji. It is expected that the Eelavar Democratic Front will forge an alliance with the United Parties Freedom Alliance (UPFA) which is already contesting the PC elections. The senior politburo of EROS based in London headed by Nesan Shankar Raji have been engaging in talks with the SLFP party leaders through their UK branch and are keen to contest in the Provincial council elections under the UPFA alliance although no confirmation or formal agreement between EROS and the UPFA has been signed. They have been holding talks during the last two weeks.

Nesan Shankar Raji in a communiqué to Asian Tribune stated that EROS has a very good strong-hold and rapport with the local Tamil speaking people living in Amparai and Trincomalee including Batticaloa and it is expected that they will win at least 6 to 8 seats in the Provincial Council elections if all goes well. He stated that his party, the EDF will focus on rehabilitation and development projects with the assistance of the Government and INGO’s to help re-develop the Eastern Province.

It is anticipated that EROS leaders will be in Colombo shortly to meet up with President other party leaders in the run up to the Provincial Council elections. Several more senior members of EROS from Canada and Europe will be returning to Sri Lanka to work for the party more actively in Sri Lanka and assist the Government of Sri Lanka in implementing a peace solution for the Tamil speaking people of the North-East.
