Ranjith Page clinches top award of 'Business Leader of the Year'

Colombo, 04 April, (Asiantribune.com): Ranjith Page, Chief Executive Officer at Cargills (Ceylon) Ltd was honoured with the ‘Business Leader of the Year’ (Large Scale Organisation) Gold Award at the glittering CIMA Janashakthi Pinnacle awards held at the Cinnamon Grand on Wednesday 02 April 2008. The most distinguished honour on offer, this national level award is held in high esteem by the business community and recognises leaders who have made a significant contribution not only to their organization, but also to the business community. Acknowledged as one of the premier events in the country’s business events calendar, the CIMA Janashakthi Pinacle Awards celebrate business excellence, leadership, management and team work at the highest standards. They also reward excellence in professionalism among the cream of Sri Lanka’s business community.

Chief Guest at the Awards was Nobel Prize Co-Winner Prof. Mohan Munasinghe, who was joined by a host of distinguished invitees from the financial, accounting and corporate world. W.T. Ellawala, Chairman of Janashakthi Insurance Company Ltd, which has partnered CIMA with this awards scheme since its inception and has sponsored the event for the fifth consecutive year, was present as Guest of Honour.

Ravindra Pitigalage, Chief Financial Officer at Lanka Transformers Group of Companies triumphed as the CFO of the Year (Large Scale Organisation).

The Gold Award for the Young CIMA Star of the Year was awarded to Asanka Wimalaratne, General Manager at Textprint Lanka (Pvt) Ltd. Dayan Gunasekera, Management Accountant at Hemas Manufacturing (Pvt) Ltd took home the Silver Award in this category while Himashi De Silva, Asset and Liability Management Officer at Sampath Bank Ltd won the Bronze Award in this category. Three Merit Awards went to Kasuni Silva, Fadhil Jiffrey, and Malika Perera.

The Gold Award for the CIMA Business Manager of the Year was awarded to G. Ramanan, CEO at HNB Securities Ltd.

The winners of The Young CIMA Star, Business Manager of the Year and the Chief Financial Officer of the Year will receive a scholarship to a two-week executive programme at the Indian Institute of Management in Bangalore, said to be India's best business school.

The Gold Award for the Management Team of the Year was awarded to Lanka Bell (Pvt) Ltd while the Merit Award went to Amba Research Lanka (Pvt).

Congratulating the winners, Chief Guest at the Awards, 2007 Nobel Peace Prize Co-Winner Prof. Mohan Munasinghe said, “The high calibre of award winners shows that there is no dearth of talent in Sri Lanka, which should be a cause for both pride and optimism, as we face the challenges of the 21st century. In particular, addressing issues like sustainable development, poverty alleviation and climate change will require us to focus on not only the economic, but also the social and environmental dimensions. The business sector has a critical and constructive role to play, in collaboration with government and civil society”.

The winners were selected by an eminent panel of judges, top professionals drawn from diverse fields and expertise, who made the selections after studying the applications and finally personally interviewing each of the short listed candidates. They were Trevine Fernandopulle, Ravi Peiris, Richard Jurienz, Rohini Nanayakkara, Dr.Uditha Liyange.
