Celebrate New Year in unity, Ambassador urges Tamil and Sinhala communities

Paris, 16 April, (Asiantribune.com): Sri Lankan Ambassador Chitranganee Wagiswara called upon the Sinhala and Tamil communities in France to celebrate national events like the Sinhala and Tamil New Year and the Independence anniversary in unity.New Year Celebrations in ParisNew Year Celebrations in Paris

Addressing the community leaders and the heads of Sri Lankan associations in France at a function held at the Embassy to mark the Sinhala and Tamil New Year, she urged the community leader and Sri Lankan associations to use their influence over the respective communities to strengthen racial harmony and unity.

Ms Wagiswara expressed her gratitude to Sinhala and Tamil community leaders for the assistance given to ensure the success of common programmes organized by the Embassy to mark the 60th anniversary of independence, the special exhibition organized to mark the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations between France and Sri Lanka and the Sinhala and Tamil New Year. She wished all success for the joint Cultural Festival scheduled to be held on June 7 this year with the participation of all the Sri Lankan associations.

After welcoming the guests, Minister Counsellor Sugeeswara Senadhira read the New Year message of President Mahinda Rajapaksa. The Tamil translation of Prime Minister Ratnasiri Wickremanayake’s message was read by Mr Somapala Wijesinghe.

The visitors were treated to Kiribath and other traditional Sri Lankan sweetmeat such as Kevum and Kokis.
