Vision impaired Sandru Priyangvada received cash award from Minister Douglas Devananda

Colombo, 03 May, (Asiantribune.com): Douglas Devananda, Minister of Social Services and Social Welfare awarded a cash reward of Rs. 10,000/= at his Ministerial premises on 28 April, to Sandaru Priyangvada Chandrawathie a vision impaired student at Kurunegala Gettuwana Maha Vidyalaya for her excellent performance at the G.C.E. Ordinary Level Examination.

Minister having come to know her excellent performances at the G.C.E. (Ordinary Level) Examination through the media, awarded this reward for her higher studies.

Minister also instructed Mr. M.A. Alam, the Director, National Secretariat for the Persons with Disabilities to look into her requirements and explore the possibility of providing her with further facilities for her studies.

Accordingly, Douglas Devananda invited Miss. Sandaru Priyangvada and her parents to the meeting of the Persons with Disabilities held at his Ministry on the 28th April. He awarded her with a cash reward of Rs. 10,000 and informed her to contact the Director, National Secretariat of the Persons with Disabilities for any further assistance for her higher education.

Minister Douglas Devananda speaking at the occasion stated that the other parents too having children with disabilities need to follow suit of the parents of Miss. Sandaru Priyangvada in persuading their children for studies.

Mrs. V.. Jegarajasingam Secretary to the Ministry, Mr. M.A. Alam, Director, National Secretariat for Persons with Disabilities, Mr. Kesaralal Gunasekara, the Leader of the Opposition, Dehiwala / Mount Lavinia, Municipal Council and former Member of Parliament Mr. S.L. Hettiarachchi and Mr. Sirisena members of the National Secretariat for Persons with Disabilities participated at the occasion.
