Government rejects UNP allegations

Colombo, 07 May, (Asiantribune.com): Government rejects UNP allegations that there is a delay in the distribution of official poll cards for the Eastern Provincial Council Election.

According to the records of the Post Master General, 95 percent of the distribution of poll cards is now complete. The Post Master General has already stated that individuals who have not received their poll card can prove their identity and obtain it from post offices.

Speaking at a press briefing at the parliamentary complex today minister Dallas Alahaperuma said in any election about 10 percent of poll cards remain undelivered.

Also speaking at the press briefing, Minister Anura Priyadharshana Yapa said from now own the UNP is attempting to justify its defeat in the forthcoming election.

Minister Nimal Siripala de Silva pointed out that the government has demonstrated both nationally and internationally its honest endeavors towards the devolution of power through the eastern provincial election.

Minister Susil Premajayanth observed that there is no evidence of armed cadres involved in the election campaigns. Every political party can carryout their campaigns without intimidations.

Minister Lakshman Yapa Abeywardena stated that very few complaints have been received so far pertaining to the eastern poll.
