No police and land powers to EPC says JHU

Colombo, 14 May, (Asiantribune.com): While Minister Maithripala Sirisena yesterday said that Eastern province will be given land and police powers, the Jathika Hela Urumaya told media today that they are against the idea of giving these powers to the Eastern Provincial Council. The JHU further said the people of the East have defeated terrorism in the Provincial Council Election.

Speaking a press conference in Colombo today JHU Leader Venerable Ellawala Medhananda Thera said the people have comprehensively defeated attempts to spread terrorism in the province. Also speaking at the press conference Minister Patali Champika Ranawaka assured the constant support of the Party to the government’s drive to develop the eastern province.

Meanwhile the Maha Sangha praises the President for the conducting of Provincial council election in the eastern province successfully. The statement was made when chief minister of the Sabaragamuwa Mahipala Herath called on the Mahanayake of the Asgiri chapter most Venerable Udugama Sri Buddarakkitha.

The Venerable Thera reiterated that the people in east have voted enthusiastically because of faith in the government of their security and well being. It is clearly indicated for the necessity of develop the region and betterment of their future.

The victory leads to accelerate development process carried out in the north and east and all over the island.
