President calls for preparedness to overcome global energy crisis

He stated this at the meeting of the ministerial sub committee on food security and cost of living held today at Temple Trees.

The price of a barrel of oil in the international market stands at 135 US dollars and is further on the rise. Sri Lanka currently spends 3.5 billion US dollars on oil imports. The figure in the year 2000 was 900 million US dollars.

Speaking further the president also highlighted the need of increasing local production. He directed relevant officials to form a coordinating office for this measure this week.
