Minister charges that the UNP is rejoicing over fuel hike

Colombo, 28 May, (Asiantribune.com): Minister Anura Priyadarshana Yapa observes that the UNP is rejoicing on the suffering of the people caused by rising petroleum prices. At a recent media briefing UNP parliamentarian Thalatha Athukorala said the cause of rising fuel prices is the lack of proper economic management by the government.

She had also charged that the government is increasing prices of goods without any compassion for the people.

Issuing a statement today Minister Anura Priyadarshana Yapa informs the MP that the government cannot control international petroleum prices.

He pointed out that almost every country that imports fuel are facing the difficulties now experienced in Sri Lanka.

The Minister stated that despite these hardships the government has not curtailed assistance and welfare for the people.
