Son of an EPDP stalwart and an MTV journalist hacked to death in Jaffna

Colombo, 29 May, (Asiantribune.com): Mahenthiran Varathan aged 28 from Mavadi Junction, Vaddukoddai and MTV Television Network Jaffna district correspondent Paranurapasingham Devakumar aged 32, who is also from Vaddukoddai, were hacked to death yesterday evening at Kallundai who were on their way home from Jaffna town.

Maheswaran Varathan is the son of an EPDP stalwart Velupillai Mahenthiran who was the former Chairman of the Valikamam West Pradeshiya Sabah and the joint organizer of EPDP for Vaddukoddai.

According to EPDP sources, while travelling in a motor cycle along with Devakumar, they were stopped at Kallundai and hacked to death by the suspected LTTE assassins.

Maheswaran Varathan is employed at the IT centre in Jaffna.

EPDP sources further said that bodies of the both murdered persons are now kept at the Jaffna teaching hospital.
