Sri Lanka born EU MP provides 6000 tents to earthquake victims of China

Sri Lanka born EU legislator Nirj Deva said he would provide 6000 tents for earthquake victims in China.

Mr. Nirj Deva, Chairman of the EU-China Friendship Group in the European Parliament said these tents would be useful affected Chinese families which amounts five million.

Louis Michel, Commissioner of Development and Humanitarian Aids in the European Commission assisted to provide tents after the request of Mr.Deva. These tents will be delivered through the Red Cross.

Speaking to media in Colombo on Sunday he said the Chinese side is getting in touch with the Indian Disaster Management Authority for the tents. Also, he is trying to get through to the Turks, and to the US.

In short he is trying to borrow 1 million tents from the Armies of these countries including Norway. He said he has spoken to John Hans Buaer in Eric Solheims office and making an appeal to the civilian populations who go trekking like the Scandinavians, the Swiss to donate tents. He has also been contacting the cabinet of Mr. Ban Ki-Moon, the Secretary General of the United Nation.

In apart of this, Mr. Nirj Deva is arranging a Public Service Address for Former President Clinton, who has agreed on TV appealing for Tents to be given buy the American and Global Public.
