LTTE Military Intelligence Wing Leader in Trincomalee shot and killed

Colombo, 20 June, (Asiantribune.com): Sri Lanka Army shot and killed Thangkan Amman, (38 Yrs.) yesterday morning at Manal Chenai, located in Muthur, in the Trincomalee district.

Thangkan Amman alias Sounderarajan is an intelligence operative of the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam. Thangkan provide Intelligence to LTTE Military wing.

He was involved in the gathering of intelligence regarding Sri Lanka Navy camp in Trincomalee, movement of Navy ships and boats. He was actively involved, when Sri Lanka Air Force planes attacked Muttur, Kaddaprichchan and Mavilaru in 2006.

Thangkan Amman originally from Poomarakkaddu Chenai, is considered a specialist in working with the school children and he has successfully mobilized school children in several LTTE rallies in Trincomalee.

According to the defence sources in the area, Thangkan Amman identified as Soundarajan has been hunted down by soldiers whilst engaged in a cordon and search operation yesterday, around 9.30 am.
Thangkan Amman was the successor of Arichchellwam who was also gunned down by army in January this year.

A micro pistol, 3 magazines and a pistol pouch have been found in the possession of the slain terror leader.

The sources further revealed that the slain terror leader was the head of the special LTTE team sent to the east to disrupt the prevailing normalcy in the area.

Sources further revealed that he had some misunderstanding with Neethan, the overall head of Trincomalee district Intelligence Unit of LTTE and a power struggle was going on since of late between the two operatives, as Thangkan Amman was working for the LTTE’s Military Intelligence Unit, while Neethan was with Pottu Amman.
