Sri Lanka – Russia exchanges views on current and bilateral issues

A thorough exchange of views on the current state of and prospects for Russian-Sri Lankan relations took place during consultations between Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation Alexei Borodavkin and Sri Lanka Foreign Secretary Dr. Palitha Kohona on Tuesday (June 17).

Both sides noted with satisfaction that the high level of bilateral political dialogue and the positive dynamics of mutually advantageous cooperation in a whole array of growth areas.

The invariable similarity of the sides’ approaches towards the key issues in world and regional politics was reaffirmed and the importance of strengthening the UN's central role in world affairs and building a multi-polar world order based on the rule of international law was noted. The sides accentuated attention to the need for a consistent and resolute struggle against international terrorism in all its forms and manifestations.

The consultations have borne out the mutual keenness of the sides on building on the regular inter-MFA dialogue and on reinforcing the coordination of efforts and cooperation between Russia and Sri Lanka within the UN and other international forums of which they are members.
