Ambassador Nakandala is the new Deputy High Commissioner to London

Colombo, 27 June, (Asiantribune.com): Amralal Sumith Nakandala, Sri Lanka’s Ambassador to Nepal has been appointed as Deputy High Commissioner to Britain.

He will be replacing Sudantha Ganegamaarachchi, the present Deputy High Commissioner whose terms already expired and on extension till the end of July this year.

Ambassador Nakandala, a career diplomat and he was the Deputy High Commissioner of Chennai, India from November 2001 until early part of 2006. While he was in Chennai, though holding the Deputy High Commissioners position, he was elevated to the rank of an Ambassador. A hard working diplomat and left his indelible mark in Chennai when he left for Nepal

In 2006 he was appointed as Ambassador to Nepal and remains in that position until now.

Appointing an Ambassador to the position of Deputy High Commissioner to London shows the serious intention of Sri Lanka Government to put the Mission in order.

Already Government has appointed a Retired Supreme Court Judge Chandra Nihal Jayasinghe, as the new High Commissioner to United Kingdom from 1st of July. He is replacing another career diplomat Shenuka Senivaratne, who has completed her tour of duty and has gone back to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Colombo on the 19th of this month.

In the meantime, First Secretary Maxwell Keegel whose terms in London expired is now been posted to Sri Lanka’s UN Permanent Mission in New York.
