Government of Sri Lanka hailed Indian government’s victory

Colombo, 24 July, (Asiantribune.com): Government of Sri Lanka hailed Indian government’s victory on Tuesday and said it is another victory for Sri Lanka.

Addressing a special press briefing at the parliament complex on Wednesday Minister Maithreepala Sirisena said it is a blessing for India and Sri Lanka.

He said government has rejected LTTE’s so-called peace offer but said the UNP’s behavior on the government decision is shameful.

“Our troops are now marching towards the Kilinochchi and Mullativu –LTTE’s heartland. But the UNP does not encourage our troops to end the terrorism, he said.

“Our security forces proved its discipline from its operations against the LTTE to liberate the Eastern province. We hope to liberate the Northern Province and wiped out the terrorism, said the Minister.

He said the United National Party made negative remarks on government’s decision not to stop military operations against the LTTE.

He further said the holding of the SAARC summit in Sri Lanka is a challenge for the LTTE.

The TNA, which represents the LTTE, also present facts against conducting the conference in the country. He added similar sentiments expressed by the JVP also reflect their political bankruptcies.

Mr.Sirisena explained that both the UNP and the JVP are subjected to a serious political collapse. More than 12 thousand UNP supporters in the North Central and Sabaragamuwa provinces have come forward to support the government.

Meanwhile JVP MP Anura Kumara Dissanayake making a special statement in Sri Lanka’s Parliament on Wednesday said, India is acting with the intention of becoming an economic giant in the region. He added the economic expansion unleashed by India should come under extensive discussion. He said the Indian government wants to act as a dictator.
