Given below the full text of the open letter by Ranjith Soysa, Spokesperson of WAPS and other organizations addressed to Mr Gotabhaya Rajapakse, Secretary- Defence, Ministry of Defence:

11 Aug 2008

Mr Gotabhaya Rajapakse
Secretary- Defence
Ministry of Defence
Colombo 1, Sri Lanka

Dear Sir,

Awakened by the revelations that INGOs & NGOs are shielding, supporting and strengthening the LTTE terrorists while obstructing the liberation drive of the Armed Forces advancing on the Vanni Front,

Surprised by the continued pro-LTTE activities of employees of some UN agencies in spite of Defence Secretary urging them not to provide nourishment to the Tigers,

Concerned, about total disregard to GOSL by some diplomatic agencies sending massive quantities of food to feed the Tigers in Kilinochchi and Mulativu through WFP caught supporting Tigers on several previous occasions,

Deeply concerned by the formation of a National Committee to campaign for the devolution of powers by a group of Ministers themselves without any reference to the People's mandate undermining, the efforts of the Government and the People by downgrading the priority to defeat the Tamil Terrorist Scourge,

Conscious of the aspirations of the Nation and their sustained patience in spite of countless difficulties they face amidst worst injustices and humiliations they are subjected to through terror attacks and political opportunism,

Highly conscious of the possible outburst of feelings in a hitherto unseen form by the Nation in the event of intervention or meddling in the country's national security admirably upheld by the Defence Secretary and his team, who have shattered the propagated myth of an invincible LTTE,

Also mindful, of the fact that President Mahinda Rajapaksa was elected by the Nation for the main purpose and the singular pledge given by him to annihilate the terrorist scourge and restore democracy within the unitary state,

Recalling that His Excellency President Rajapaksa entrusted the noble mission of freeing the country from the terrorist scourge to Sri Lanka’s Defence Secretary Gotabhya Rajapakse and members of the Defence forces with utmost confidence, with sincere expectation that Mr Gotabahya Rajapakse and his team will fulfil the mission without turning back for any reason whatsoever and that it is the expectation of the Nation as well,

We, the individuals and organizations that have been in the campaign of eliminating Tamil armed militancy and terror in this country and restoring its unitary status, representing the Nation which has been subjected to painful injustices and humiliation by the very NGOs, INGOs, some UN Agencies and some Diplomatic agencies with the support of their agents and lackeys with self proclaimed titles adorned round their necks and heads,

On behalf of the Nation, call upon you, Mr. Gothabhaya Rajapaksa, the Defence Secretary, to deal with anybody irrespective of their status, in performing your sacred national duty you are entrusted with by His Excellency President Rajapaksa and the People of Sri Lanka.

We further state that the whole Nation as well as the watching world is well aware of what the NGOS, INGOS, some UN Agencies and Diplomatic Agencies have opted to do here in this country, their vicious aims and objectives. The Nation as well as the right thinking World are wondering how these NGOS, INGOS, UN Agencies as well as some Diplomatic agencies are openly supporting the terrorists, ignoring the sovereignty of the Nation and attempting to prolong the instability facing Sri Lanka and the South Asian region by continuing their overt and covert support for the LTTE by high lighting human rights issues in a partisan manner.

And, therefore, in order to fulfil the noble national task entrusted to you, We urge you to arrange and implement all steps to protect the National Security and take action against those obstructing the campaign to free the Nation from the terrorist scourge without delay, and we assure our continued support for all principled steps taken in this direction and to soon join you to celebrate the Nation's Victory

Ranjith Soysa,
Spokesperson,
World Alliance for Peace in Sri Lanka
