Security measures beefed up at Chennai Trade Centre

Chennai, 03 January, (Asiantribune.com): A 3-day NRI conference is to be held at the Chennai Trade Center, Nandambakkam, from January 7th to 9th.

As per the itinerary the Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, the President Pratibha Patil, Chief Ministers of various states and Union Ministers would address the gathering on the second and third day respectively.

Over 1000 NRIs living in Australia, Canada, Malaysia, Japan and other countries are expected to participate. The conference aims to address problems faced by NRIs abroad and various options would be explored to arrive at specific solutions.

Having received an email threat from terrorists, security measures at the Trade Centre have been beefed up. Entry has been restricted to ID card holders. Employees of the Trade Centre have to go through a thorough security check before they enter.

All entry points are under vigil. Speaking to presspersons, Jangit Commissioner Sub-urban Chennai stated that the security personnel were equipped to fight it out in the case of terror attacks. He added that about 500 private security personnel have been deployed at the Trade Center area.

The names of the dignitaries, the time if their visit and the route that they would use to enter the Trade Centre is being kept secret.
