When asked that there is an allegation that some Arab countries want Hamas defeated. What is the reason behind this allegation and is there any truth? Abdullah Abdullah, Chairman of the Political Committee of the Palestinian Legislative Council (Parliament) forcefully denied the allegation

He said, "No, not at all. Hamas is part of the Palestinian political fabric; defeat of Hamas is weakening the Palestinian political fabric. Of course we want to coordinate and include Hamas in the political system; this can be done through the National Dialogue that our President called for in last June and Egypt is still working on it, too."

What in your opinion is the reason for this invasion and attack on Gaza?

Israel provoked Palestinians by its continuous blockade on Gaza, killing 6 Palestinians before the end of the cease fire. The main purpose of it is to create facts on the ground by keeping Gaza separated from the West Bank, thus claiming that there is no territorial base for a future Palestinian state.

There is an allegation that some Arab countries want Hamas defeated. What is the reason behind this allegation and is there any truth?

No, not at all. Hamas is part of the Palestinian political fabric; defeat of Hamas is weakening the Palestinian political fabric. Of course we want to coordinate and include Hamas in the political system; this can be done through the National Dialogue that our President called for in last June and Egypt is still working on it, too.

There is opposition to Egypt and some other Arab countries including Palestinian Authority for not doing enough and almost collaborating with Israel. How do you see this allegation?

We don’t collaborate with anybody against our people. The Palestinian Authority and its President are leading the efforts to put an end to the bloodshed, government and people of Palestine in West Bank are doing their utmost and support at all levels. Fatah Cadres along with the rest of PLO faction members are practicing in the resistance of the Israeli invasion in Gaza. All Palestinians shot dead by Israeli army in the West Bank during demonstrations are Fatah members.

Can you explain why Rafah gates remain closed? Here too there are allegations that Egypt is with Israel in this matter.

Not true, there are seven crossings into Gaza. One from Egypt (which is Rafah Border) and others through Israel. We don’t want Israel to succeed in separating Gaza from West Bank to achieve its goal and relieve itself from what is called in Israel the Palestinian demographic bomb. Gaza is inhabited by 1.5 million Palestinians, and Israeli leaders always wanted Gaza to be pushed into the sea.

Even though it is obvious those causalities among civilian specially children and women are high UN and EU and UN Secretary General fail to condemn this attack. Why?

It is unfortunate that the conscious of the world is so blunt. That they don’t react to this genocidal war which goes beyond the collective punishment since it endangers peace and security of humanity. They cannot claim they didn’t know Israel meant by its high causalities of civilians to break the will of Palestinians to resist. And that will never happen. In 2002 during the siege of Jenin camp 200 Palestinians fighters fought the Israeli army for 3 weeks, in Beirut - Lebanon 1982 the Palestinians (PLO) fighters fought the Israeli army for 88 days.

Who should act first: should Hamas stop rockets first or Israel stops bombing and invasion. If not both what is the solution?

There is an Egyptian draft at the Security Council, which is supported by Arab countries, European countries and others. When there is a plan it is a package. The Israeli must stop because they are attacking and killing. To stop their attack and drop its forces, Hamas and Palestinians would stop their resistance back, and we can take it from there.

Will the popularity rating of President Abbas weakens as a result of this war? Has Hamas become more popular. Will there be any special developments after Jan.9th the last day to present presidency.

Popularity of President Abbas is not the issue; the issue is the success of the efforts to put an end to the onslaught of the Palestinian people. Our prime concern, we know that the street is charged and it is not our main concern. Families are being wiped out, institutions, infrastructure, schools, places of worship and government buildings.

If UN, EU, Arab League and all such organization fail, how will the war end in your opinion?

They want to see more blood to awaken them up, but certainly there are concerned efforts at this stage like active diplomacy working to bring to an end on this invasion.

Has Hamas become more popular than Fatah as a result of this war?

I never looked at this question, and it is not my concern. Fatah is leading even now. It started in 1995, and no one can ignore its history, role, achievements and its presence, and its continuous responsibility to protect and safeguard the Palestinian National project and achieving the Palestinian inalienable rights of Palestinian people and no one can ignore these facts.
